Sunrise at Marty Boys is a family-run business that has been a much-loved part of Lowestoft’s seafront for more than 20 years. During that time, it has operated from three different locations along the promenade before finally moving into its impressive new home as part of the brand-new Jubilee Parade development, right on the beach.

The business originally began in a small kiosk-style building known as Tides Reach, situated next to the Royal Green. Despite its modest size, it quickly became a favourite with both local residents and visitors, offering freshly made drinks, light refreshments, seaside essentials and, in many people’s opinion, some of the best Mr Whippy ice cream on the Suffolk coast.
They later moved further along the Lower Promenade, opening Sunrise at Zak’s in one of the previously unused seafront buildings. The business expanded its focus on freshly prepared food and drinks, quickly becoming a favourite destination for both locals and visitors. Zack’s traded successfully for many years before the building was demolished to make way for the new Jubilee Parade development. During the construction period, the team temporarily relocated to a nearby cabin, ensuring customers could continue to enjoy the same friendly service and familiar faces.Over the years, Sunrise at Zak’s became much more than just a café. It developed into a popular meeting place for walkers, cyclists, beachgoers and dog owners, earning a reputation for its warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere. It has always been proudly dog-friendly, with treats on hand for its four-legged visitors.
Today, the business has entered an exciting new chapter in its beautiful new premises at Jubilee Parade. Renamed Sunrise at Marty Boys in memory of Martin – a much-loved husband, father and the driving force behind the business – the café stands as a fitting tribute to his dedication and passion. Following Martin’s sad passing after illness, his family have continued his legacy, creating a welcoming venue that he would undoubtedly have been proud of.
The spacious new premises have allowed the business to expand both its seating and its menu. With comfortable indoor seating and a generous outdoor terrace overlooking the beach, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning sea views whatever the weather.
The menu now offers an excellent selection of speciality teas, freshly brewed coffees, indulgent hot chocolates, light bites, sandwiches and toasted sandwiches with a variety of delicious fillings. There is also an irresistible range of homemade cakes and sweet treats, alongside the much-loved ice creams that have delighted generations of visitors.
